Details Information of Polish Lynx Pigeon

Polish Lynx Pigeon Origin Description Size Ornaments Colors Comment Caring and Pictures gallery

Origin: Poland. It is thought to have been produced from a cross of a large Polish field pigeon, which was blue with white lacing and bars, and a white-headed, white-flighted Pouter, now extinct. The Lynx was introduced into Germany about 1868. The Germans are said to have produced the other colors.

Description: A dual-purpose breed, which is Poland's contribution to utility breeds.

Size: Large, weight about 21 ounces (about 600 grams), with rather short legs.

Ornaments: It is plain-headed and clean-legged. It has no ornaments.

Colors: Its colors are unusual for a squabbing breed. They are: blue and black, with white wing bars and white or colored primaries (white is preferred); laced in black, blue, red, and yellow. In the laced the wing coverts are white, edged with color; the primaries are white or colored; the head, neck, breast, and body are colored with the color of the lacing. Spangling also exists.

Comment: Though the Lynx has been in the United States since early in this century, it has never become popular here and is very rarely seen in a show.

Seven steps must follows for Pigeon growing:

The requirements for pigeon breeding are simple, but they must be followed to be successful. There should be no relaxing or neglect at any time, for it is much easier to prevent trouble than to eliminate disease, parasites or vermin once these have occurred. A dry house with the inside protected from rain or snow.

1. Separate houses for mated pairs and odd birds.
2. A flypen, if the breed requires one that dries out easily.
3. A suitable feed ration protected from contamination.
4. A suitable mineral ration protected from contamination.
5. Water suitable for human consumption protected from contamination.
6. Suitable nesting materials.

If any one of the seven is neglected, trouble of some sort will eventually occur.
