Hana Pouter Pigeon with Origin Description Size Ornaments Color Comment caring pictures gallery and Video

Origin: Czechoslovakia, in Hana, a country of Moravia. It is of recent origin, having been created about 1880. It is said to have been produced from a cross of the Pomeranian and English Pouters to the Moravian Strasser. A standard for the breed was approved in 1925.

Description: An exhibition breed. It is erect and sturdy.

Size: This is a large Pouter, average weight about 580 to 600 grams.

Ornaments: It is plain headed, large-muffed, and has a pear-shaped crop.

Colors: The Hana’s colors and color patterns are the same as those of the Strasser. The plumage should be white,

with a colored head, bib, back, wings and tail. Colors are black, blue barred or barless, red and yellow; black, blue, red and yellow, with white bars; also spangled and laced. Foul markings where plumage should be white and common.

Comment: The breed was introduced to the United States in 1954 by L. E. Hummel of Columbia, Missouri. It has not yet gained wide popularity.

Seven steps must follows for Pigeon growing: The requirements for pigeon breeding are simple, but they must be followed to be successful. There should be no relaxing or neglect at any time, for it is much easier to prevent trouble than to eliminate disease, parasites or vermin once these have occurred.

1. A dry house with the inside protected from rain or snow.
2. Separate houses for mated pairs and odd birds.
3. A flypen, if the breed requires one that dries out easily.
4. A suitable feed ration protected from contamination.
5. A suitable mineral ration protected from contamination.
6. Water suitable for human consumption protected from contamination.
7. Suitable nesting materials.
If any one of the seven is neglected, trouble of some sort will eventually occur.
