Origin: Spain, in the eastern seacoast province of Catalonia. Brage says it was created by Sr. Salgot, a Catalonian fancier, through the crossing of the smallest Catalonian flying Tumbler with the Valencian Figurita. This commenced about 1900. Brage says the breed is not mentioned in Spanish pigeon literature.

Description: A flying breed, but also bred for show qualities. Its head is small, squarish and that on top. Its neck is short and wide; it has a wide and prominent breast. Its legs are very short with tiny feet and the bird should walk on tip-toe.

Size: Very small, average weight 170 to 230 grams. Smaller birds are preferred and before the Spanish Civil War (1936) birds weighing 4 to 6 ounces are said to have been common.

Ornaments: It is plain-headed and clean-legged with a neck frill which should be as small as possible. Its squarish head, very short legs and tiny feet are departures from the wild Columba livia type.

Colors: It is self or white-tailed in all colors. The most common colors today are: red, yellow, black, bronze, blue barred and silver barred with or without white tail. Its eye is pearl with a small pupil; its eye cere, a fine damson color.

Comment: Brage says it is a good flying bird and a fairly good breeder. It is rare in the United States, if it occurs at all.

The requirements for pigeon breeding are simple, but they must be followed to be successful. There should be no relaxing or neglect at any time, for it is much easier to prevent trouble than to eliminate disease, parasites or vermin once these have occurred.

1. A dry house with the inside protected from rain or snow.
2. Separate houses for mated pairs and odd birds.
3. A flypen, if the breed requires one that dries out easily.
4. A suitable feed ration protected from contamination.
5. A suitable mineral ration protected from contamination.
6. Water suitable for human consumption protected from contamination.
7. Suitable nesting materials.

If any one of the seven is neglected, trouble of some sort will eventually occur.
