Details Information about South German Charcoal-Lark Pigeon

South German Charcoal-Lark Pigeon origin description size ornaments colors comment caring and pictures gallery:

Origin: Germany, in the provinces of Wurttemberg and Bavaria. Durigen (1886) described it as a variety of the small yellow or gold Lark and said that crossing these two gave nicely larked young. Lavalle and Lietze (1905) said that the Kohllerche comes from mating dark Coburg Larks together. Wittig (1927) also in writing on the Coburg Lark mentioned Kohllerche but said this type had been eliminated. It is ranked as a distinct breed with a standard by Jiirgens (1951).

Description: An exhibition variety only.

Size: Small to medium, estimated weight 13 to 15 ounces.

Ornaments: It is bred plain-headed and clean-legged. The frontal is low.

Colors: Blackish with faint "lark" (checker) markings on the wings and a restricted light bronze area on the crop and breast. Its eye is orange.

Comment: Few modern German works discuss this variety, and it is presumably not as popular as the Nuremberg and Coburg Larks. It is very rare in the United States, if it occurs at all.

Seven steps must follows for Pigeon growing:
The requirements for pigeon breeding are simple, but they must be followed to be successful. There should be no relaxing or neglect at any time, for it is much easier to prevent trouble than to eliminate disease, parasites or vermin once these have occurred.
  1. A dry house with the inside protected from rain or snow.
  2. Separate houses for mated pairs and odd birds.
  3. A flypen, if the breed requires one that dries out easily.
  4. A suitable feed ration protected from contamination.
  5. A suitable mineral ration protected from contamination.
  6. Water suitable for human consumption protected from contamination.
  7. Suitable nesting materials.
If any one of the seven is neglected, trouble of some sort will eventually occur.
