Star Gard Shaker Pigeon with Origin Description Size Ornaments Color Comment Caring and Pictures Gallery

Origin: Pomerania, and in the vicinity of the city of Stargard. It is an old breed thought to have existed in the early 1700’s. it is also called the Swan neck (Schwanenhals) in Germany. The breeds used in its creation are uncertain.

Description: It was originally a flying breed and is said to have been a good forager and a good feeder of its young. It is now an exhibition breed. Its neck is long and curved and has the continual tremulous motion of the old-time Fantail and the Indian Mookee. Its wings should be carried neatly on the tail.

Size: Small, average weight about 290 to 330 grams.

Ornaments: It is plain-headed and clean-legged, though there have been some varieties with a peak crest and/ or muffs.

Colors: Black, blue barred, red, yellow, white, lark, and checkered; also grizzled, tigered and magpie. These latter colors are very rare. The reds and yellows are the best quality.

Comment: The breed has been in the United States for some time, but never been popular and is fairly rare.

Seven steps must follows for Pigeon growing:
The requirements for pigeon breeding are simple, but they must be followed to be successful.

There should be no relaxing or neglect at any time, for it is much easier to prevent trouble than to eliminate disease, parasites or vermin once these have occurred.

1.    A dry house with the inside protected from rain or snow.
2.    Separate houses for mated pairs and odd birds.
3.    A flypen, if the breed requires one that dries out easily.
4.     A suitable feed ration protected from contamination.
5.    A suitable mineral ration protected from contamination.
6.    Water suitable for human consumption protected from contamination.
7.    Suitable nesting materials.
If any one of the seven is neglected, trouble of some sort will eventually occur.
