Origin: Germany. What the Americans did
in creating Show Racers, the Germans did with their Racing Homers, only
earlier-about 1900. The Germans, though, out crossed to the show Antwerp and
the Show Homer. The new breed was first called Schonheitsbrieftaube
(Beauty Racing Homer), and later Deutsche Schautaube (German Show
Pigeon).
Description: The Beauty Homer is breed in the
United States for exhibition only. It is typically a Homer, but differs from
the Racing Homer and the American Show Racer in that it has a bullet-shaped
beak, a much longer and thinner neck, a horizontal body and tail and much
longer legs.
Size:
Medium, average
weight about 480 to 580 grams.
Ornaments: The Beauty Homer should be
plain-headed and clean-legged. Its beak in a departure from the wild (Columba
livia) type.
Colors: It is breed in many colors and
patterns: self’s in black, red, yellow, and white; tigered, grizlled,
T-pattern, checkered, barred, barless, white-barred, and others.
Comment: The breed was introduced into the
United States in December 1945, by Major L. F. Tharp. It has no attained great
popularity here. In Germany it is said to be second only to the Racing Homer.

A dry house with the inside protected from rain or snow.

Separate houses for mated pairs and odd birds.

A flypen, if the breed requires one that dries out easily.
4.
A suitable feed ration protected from contamination.
5.
A suitable mineral ration protected from contamination.
6.
Water suitable for human consumption protected from contamination.
7.
Suitable nesting materials.
If
any one of the seven is neglected, trouble of some sort will eventually occur.
