Spangled Magpie Purzler of Satu-Mare Pigeon Origin, Description, Size, Ornaments, Colors, Comment, Caring and Pictures Gallery

Origin: Romania, in the town of Satu-Mare. The breed was created there in the last century by D. Bendes. According to Moldvai 1932, the breed was produced from the Komorner Magpie Tumbler.

Description: It is a good performing tumbling pigeon, a kit flier of medium height, and an exhibition breed as well. Its beak is of medium length.

Size: Small, average weight about 330 to 370 grams.

Ornaments: It is shell-crested and clean-legged with wings carried on the tail which has 12 rectrices. It has an oil duct.

Colors: Black, blue, red, or yellow with a white head and magpie pattern. It is similar to the Kormorner, except the colored plumage is spangled (splashed) with white. Its eye is bull with a well-developed red eye cere.

Comment: Peterfi says it is losing popularity at the present time in Romania. It is very scarce in the United States, if it occurs at all.

Seven steps must follows for Pigeon growing:

The requirements for pigeon breeding are simple, but they must be followed to be successful. There should be no relaxing or neglect at any time, for it is much easier to prevent trouble than to eliminate disease, parasites or vermin once these have occurred.

    1. A dry house with the inside protected from rain or snow.
    2. Separate houses for mated pairs and odd birds.
    3. A flypen, if the breed requires one that dries out easily.
    4. A suitable feed ration protected from contamination.
    5. A suitable mineral ration protected from contamination.
    6. Water suitable for human consumption protected from contamination.
    7. Suitable nesting materials.

If any one of the seven is neglected, trouble of some sort will eventually occur.
