Origin: Spain, in Catalonia province. Brage says that it originated from crosses of the Spanish Bagdad, the Turkish pigeon, and Belgian Homers with neck frill. It is a creation of the beginning of the 20th century and is not described in Spanish pigeon literature.

Description: It is a utility breed, smaller than the Spanish Bagdad and a far better flier and a good forager. It is said to be a fast breeder and of attractive appearance. Its neck is short, and its breast is broad. Its flights are carried on the tail.

Size: Medium, average weight about 16 to 18 ounces.

Ornaments: It is plain-headed and clean-legged, with a well-developed neck frill. It and the Czechoslovakian Ostrava Bagdad appear to be the only two breeds of Bagdad ancestry with this frill. Its beak is moderately long. with wide and well-developed nose ceres which are not rough in texture, Its eye cere is wells developed and also fine in texture.

Colors: Black, dun, blue, silver, red, yellow, white, and mottled. Its eye is red or orange in colored varieties, bull in whites. The eye cere is red, forming a contrast with its white nose cue.

Comment: Brage says that the breed is bred principally for table purposes and is crossed with any large pigeon at hand and is therefore, rarely found as a pure breed. So far as is known, the breed does not occur in the United States.

Seven steps must follows for Pigeon growing:

The requirements for pigeon breeding are simple, but they must be followed to be successful. There should be no relaxing or neglect at any time, for it is much easier to prevent trouble than to eliminate disease, parasites or vermin once these have occurred.

1. A dry house with the inside protected from rain or snow.
2. Separate houses for mated pairs and odd birds.
3. A flypen, if the breed requires one that dries out easily.
4. A suitable feed ration protected from contamination.
5. A suitable mineral ration protected from contamination.
6. Water suitable for human consumption protected from contamination.
7. Suitable nesting materials.

If any one of the seven is neglected, trouble of some sort will eventually occur.
