Miniature American Crest Pigeon with Origin Description Size Ornaments Color Comment Pictures and Videos

Origin: The United States. The Miniature American Crest was conceived and named by H. Eric Buri, of Birmingham, New Jersey, a leader in the creation of the Giant Crest. In 1943 interest in Modenas was at a high level, and Buri thought it would be advantageous to have a bantam-size Giant Crest for breeders who, for economy of space or feed, desired a breed like the Giant Crest, but of smaller size. The first outcross was made to a crested common pigeon, Further outcrosses were made to the clean-legged Long-Faced Tumbler and the Modena.

Description: It is an exhibition breed. The standard for the Miniature Crest is identical with that of the Giant Crest, save in size.

Size: Medium about that of the Modena. The ideal weight is 16 ounces.

Ornaments: It is peak crested and clean-legged.

Colors: Red, yellow, white, almond and sandy. Any color or color pattern is allowed, including Gazzi Modena marked; powdered blue, with chest nut bars; spangled,

with brown bars; and silver, barred and spangled.

Comment: This bird is not widely breed. Principal interest is centered and around the state of New Jersey.

Seven steps must follows for Pigeon growing:
The requirements for pigeon breeding are simple, but they must be followed to be successful.

There should be no relaxing or neglect at any time, for it is much easier to prevent trouble than to eliminate disease, parasites or vermin once these have occurred.

  1. A dry house with the inside protected from rain or snow.
  2. Separate houses for mated pairs and odd birds.
  3. A flypen, if the breed requires one that dries out easily.
  4. A suitable feed ration protected from contamination.
  5. A suitable mineral ration protected from contamination.
  6. Water suitable for human consumption protected from contamination.
  7. Suitable nesting materials.
If any one of the seven is neglected, trouble of some sort will eventually occur.
